Impression Technique / Tissue Retraction Combinations: Effect on Marginal Integrity of Fixed Prosthesis
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this study was to clinically assess the precision of margins reproduction using some impression techniques following application of different retraction materials. A PVS impression material with different viscosities and an injectable tissue retraction material were chosen to make impression using two impression techniques. Traditional retraction cord was used as a control. A number of patients requiring fixed prostheses were selected and a total of twenty impressions were obtained following tissue retraction with special trays. Impressions were made using different combinations of two impression techniques and two retraction materials, which resulted in four groups of five each. Margin integrity was evaluated subjectively with naked eyes and X10 stereomicroscope by three clinicians, according to an ordinal scale from 1-3 depending on the presence of emergence profile on the circumference of the margins (COM) of the prepared teeth. It was found, generally, that recorded margins did not differ significantly with variation. It can be concluded that using different combinations of tissue retraction materials and impression techniques show no significant clinical differences from each other.

Gingival retraction or dilation is an important procedure in the fabrication of fixed prostheses. Quite often, the margins of these restorations are placed very close to the gingival margin, or even subgingivally, for aesthetic and functional reasons. Therefore, the operating surgeon must correctly record the prepared cervical finish line to enable adequate marginal integrity for the restoratio...
متن کاملGingival Retraction Methods for Fabrication of Fixed Partial Denture: Literature Review
Fixed dental prosthesis success requires appropriate impression taking of the prepared finish line. This is critical in either tooth supported fixed prosthesis (crown and bridge) or implant supported fixed prosthesis (solid abutment). If the prepared finish line is adjacent to the gingival sulcus, gingival retraction techniques should be used to decrease the marginal discrepancy among the resto...

The success of any fixed prosthesis depends on the accuracy of impressions. Finish line exposure has to be adequate during impression making. The goal of gingival retraction is to atraumatically displace gingival tissues to allow access for impression material to record the finish line and provide sufficient thickness of gingival sulcus so that the impression does not tear off during removal. INTRODUCTION A dental impression is a negative imprint of an oral structure that can be used to produce a positive cast of a patient's teeth as a permanent record. The accuracy of the impression affects the accuracy of the cast, and a precise impression is needed in order to create prosthesis with optimal fitting. Minimization of misfit is an important aim in prosthesis science and dental impla...
